York is set to be a two-Primark city within weeks.
After the huge hullabaloo – and undeniable success – that surrounded the opening of the first branch at Monks Cross, the Ireland-based chain has announced the opening date for store number two.
The Primark store in the Coppergate Centre will open on Thursday, December 8, 2016.

Ready for Christmas
Primark faces both into the Coppergate Centre and out to Piccadilly
It means the store will open with 16 shopping days left to Christmas. That will be a relief for the company after delays which scuppered the original plan to open it in either October or November.
It is set to be the 180th UK store in the chain. With 34,400 sq ft it is a big store but smaller than the 57,600 sq ft Coppergate branch.
The city centre store has created 221 jobs, to add to the 277 taken on at the Monks Cross version.
York retailers welcomed the news that Primark was investing in the city centre as well as out of town. It is one of the great high street success stories, and will undoubtedly generate footfall in Coppergate.
Judging by the opening of the Monks Cross Primark in May, the opening of the Coppergate Centre store will have a party atmosphere, complete with countdown, balloons, dignitaries – and then the dash for bargains.
