The Post Office says that it will open a new facility to replace one that shut in Hemsley a year ago.
It will be at the Black Swan Hotel, on the Market Place. (Helmsley, YO62 5BJ)
This will restore Post Office services to the area as the previous branch at 25 Bridge Street closed when the Postmaster resigned with short notice.
A Mobile Post Office was only able to operate for a short while until November last year.
There will be a temporary outreach Post Office within the hotel which is due to open on Thursday 22 August at 9.30am, assuming everything goes as planned.
Longer term the Post Office says they are still looking for a permanent solution for Helmsley.
George Jabbour, Helmsley and Sinnington councillor, said the news is very good for the community and he thanked the Black Swan Hotel for their efforts to help.
The Post Office opening hours will be: Tuesday and Wednesday: 10am – 1pm; Thursday: 9.30am – 12.30pm.
This will provide nine hours of Post Office service a week.
The Black Swan Hotel is located approximately 200 metres from the previous branch, along level ground.
There is a car park directly outside the premises and there are local buses serving the surrounding area.
Ian Murphy, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted to soon be restoring a Post Office to Helmsley as we know how important a Post Office is to a community and how sorely missed this branch has been.”
