A York restaurant company which operates two acclaimed venues in the city centre plans to expand into the suburbs.
D & F Rustique Limited, the people behind Rustique on Castlegate and Nola on Lendal, are looking to open a café.
They are set to take over the former Heworth Coffee House, on the corner of East Parade and Mill Lane in Heworth.
The family run café had been a popular spot in the community for years before it closed.
Now though, it is set for a new lease of life as a Rustique café.
Plans are in to replace the shopfront and windows, and rebrand the corner property.
“The site is formerly occupied and operated as Heworth Coffee House, as an eat in or takeaway café. This use will not change.” the planning application states.
“The flat above the premises will continue to be used as a flat.”
A design statement goes on: “Rustique have been a long established family business operating in York city centre for many years,
“The opening of this café will enable them to expand their established business in the local area.
“The proposals to refurbish the existing building will benefit the local area and enable the business to thrive under new ownership.
“The unit will create new employment opportunities within the local area.”
The first York Rustique was opened on Castlegate in 2004. The French restaurant is still hugely popular today, enjoying a 4.5/5 star rating on TripAdvisor.
The team, including Fehim Kaya and Daniel Broome, then opened a second Rustique on Lendal in 2013.
Eight years later they converted the Lendal venue into Nola, serving up New Orleans-based cuisine. That too is acclaimed by diners, with another 4.5 TripAdvisor rating.
