A family-run York bar looks all set to move to brand new premises.
But its regulars won’t have to go far to find it, as its moving a few doors done on the same street.
Pairings, at 28 Castlegate, wants to move into number 18.
It has applied for planning permission to create a new shop front on the Grade II listed building.
Planned changes to the rear courtyard would include the addition of a disabled toilet. And there would be internal alterations too.
Number 18 was previously home to Briggs Burley, chartered surveyors, and RM English estate agents.
Under the plans the ground floor would become a bar and a restaurant. The first floor would include a private dining area and toilets.

And the second floor would be for staff and storage.
Planning documents state that number 18 “was originally a house dating from the early 18th century that was converted to a shop at some point during the expansion of York’s retail market along Castlegate”.
A new shopfront would be fitted to replace the one created in the 1980s. That will “return the shop front to a more traditional arrangement, which is considered to sit more harmoniously with the site and its relationship with it surroundings”.

A design statement says “no features of historic importance are to be lost or obscured as a result of the proposals”.
Pairings was opened in October 2015 by sisters Kate and Kelly Latham, who said it was “created with conversation in mind”.
