One of the Labour Party’s big hitters lent his support for the party’s York and North Yorkshire mayor candidate this weekend.
Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham joined David Skaith on the campaign trail in York.
“It was a real pleasure to welcome Andy to York and show him our wonderful city,” David said.
“Having the experience of Andy, and other Labour mayors such as Tracy Brabin in West Yorkshire and Oliver Coppard in South Yorkshire, is going to be a real advantage to us here in York and North Yorkshire.
“They have all had great success and really show what can be achieved by a mayor. Having these connections to other parts of the country will be vitally important for us to tackle issues around transport and reaching our target of NetZero, as well as being champions for The North.
“After 14 years of damaging cuts to local authorities by central government, we in York and North Yorkshire have a great opportunity to have a fresh start and bring in the funding and resources we all so badly need.
“Having partnerships with other regions will only enhance our strength and help us to build a strong and prosperous York and North Yorkshire”.
