Police warning after devices that take your money are attached to three cash machines
Be extra vigilant when using a cash machine at the moment.
North Yorkshire Police have found three ‘fraudulent devices’ attached to cash machines on one night.
The devices were all added to ATMs in Northallerton, and discovered last night (Thursday, 23 February).
When a cardholder requests money, the cash is dispensed as normal – but hidden behind the device so it looks as though the machine hasn’t issued anything.
“They had been painted and were designed to look like cash dispenser slots, making them hard to identify as fraudulent,” a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.
“As part of ongoing enquiries, North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who noticed suspicious activity around cash machines in Northallerton to get in touch.
“Please remain vigilant when using cash machines, and any suspicious activity or similar incidents to the police.”
If you can help the police with their inquiries, you can call them on 101, quoting reference 11230034273.
