The incident which saw the streets around York Minster sealed off by the emergency services has ended safely.

A man had climbed up on to one of the pinnacles of the cathedral. But at 9.53pm, North Yorkshire Police tweeted:

  • The incident at York Minster has now been resolved. A man who was intending to harm himself has been brought to safety, and taken to hospital to receive the support he needs.

Trained police negotiators spent several hours at the scene, alongside fire and ambulance service colleagues.

And the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team tweeted:

Incident over, all safe and well. HART staff now off the top of the minister only 130 steps apparently. Good fitness test. pic.twitter.com/CpWvKFyBFD
