A bike is back with its owner after swift work by a York patrol.
On Thursday, 16 November two police community support officers were out on foot in the city centre when they were stopped by a man.
He reported his bike had been stolen within the previous hour.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Details of the missing bicycle were obtained, and the male went on his way.
“Moments later both PCSOs spotted the same bicycle several streets away which appeared to be disregarded on bicycle railings.
“After further investigation the PCSOs were able to obtain the owner of the bicycle’s details and later that day the bicycle was returned to its owner.
“Since the incident there has been ongoing enquires to establish who the suspect in this theft.”
