Police make a criminal record! Cops’ Christmas music video is arrestingly daft

May the force be with you this Christmas… A still from North Yorkshire Police's festive video

They had the right to remain silent. And your eardrums might wish they had.

But the spirit of Christmas has overwhelmed the men and women of the North Yorkshire Police, and this is the result…

Needless to say, a few of the participants are now wanted for the criminal destruction of a much-loved festive tune. But their version of We Wish You A Merry Christmas certainly makes for an arresting listen.

Released on the eve of the X Factor final you can be sure that this song won’t provide competition for the Christmas number one slot. Instead the police are hoping the serious messages underlying the daftness will sink in.

‘Help us help you’

Blues and twos singer: Dep Con Tim Madgwick

Renamed Help Us Help You, and performed by an eclectic mix of police officers, Force Control Room team members, police staff and even police dog PD Buzz, the song has been adapted to highlight key messages:

  • enjoy yourself this Christmas but drink responsibly
  • keep your presents out of sight and secure
  • don’t drink and drive
  • if you need help call the police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.

Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick, who makes a cameo appearance in the music video, said:

The Christmas song and video is a fun way for North Yorkshire Police to get across some serious messages about keeping you, your loved ones and your property safe and secure over the festive period.

Our teams of police officers, PCSOs, Special Constables, police staff and volunteers will be working throughout Christmas to provide assistance and support to those who need it, no matter what time of day, every day.
