Police have been called in after a car was found in flames close to an historic North Yorkshire landmark.
Firefighters were called to the fields near to Towton Battlefield Monument, south of Tadcaster, following reports of a vehicle fire on Saturday (14 January).
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The fire was quickly extinguished by crews from Tadcaster based North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“There were no reported casualties and the emergency services in attendance left after ensuring the area was made safe.
“North Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses and information that may assist their investigation into the cause of the fire and the circumstances leading to the vehicle been left abandoned on the field.”
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation can call North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference number NYP-14012023-0104.
The Towton monument marks the area of the Battle of Towton, which took place on 29 March 1461 during the Wars of the Roses.
It has been called the “the largest and bloodiest battle on English soil.”
