Updated: Serious collision between car and a pedestrian – One person taken to hospital
Emergency services were called to the scene of a serious collision close to one of York’s busiest roads today (Friday).
Police, ambulance crews and the air ambulance were called to the incident at Bishopthorpe Road at its junction with Scarcroft Road.
It followed a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
A section of Scarcroft Road was cordoned off behind police tape.
Two police vans and a police car were on the scene, alongside an ambulance and ambulance first responder.
Scarcroft Road was sealed off between Nunmill Street and Bishopthorpe Road. Two cars were parked within the cordon.
The road is now open again.

On Friday afternoon, North Yorkshire Police said on Twitter: “Please avoid the area around the junction of Bishopthorpe Road and Scarcroft Road in York.
“We are attending a serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
“Scarcroft Road is closed at the junction, and likely to remain so for some time.
“Bishopthorpe Road is open to traffic. However, traffic in the area is extremely busy, so please consider alternative routes.”
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “We received an emergency call at 1.46pm on Friday afternoon to report a collision between a car and pedestrian near to the junction of Scarcroft Road and Bishopthorpe Road in York.
“An ambulance, air ambulance and team leader were dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed by road ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary.”
