An incident on the A64 closed the road this afternoon causing a traffic nightmare.
An aerial video shared by YappApp showed massive tailbacks after the A64 was closed at Tadcaster in both directions between the A162 and the Bramham crossroads.
Highways England estimated the tailback at 2.5 miles. At around 3pm the eastbound carriageway was reopened.
The incident was first reported at 12.25pm. At 3.30pm, Charlotte Halstead on Facebook said: “We passed this an hour ago and the slip road to the A64 off the A1/M1 just past East Garforth wasn’t moving.
“Roads from Wetherby to York are clear and moving as we’ve had to divert. Aberford and Tadcaster are rammed.”
Earlier an ambulance with a police escort was seen moving away from the scene with blue lights flashing.
Everyone is urged to stay clear.
