Motorists were hit with fines after police clamped down on illegal cars at a York driving event.
They carried out an operation at Rufforth Airfield following “multiple reports of antisocial driving connected to an organised motoring event”.
Officers stopped a number of cars, including one driven by a disqualified driver.
As a result of the crackdown:
- 11 drivers were dealt with for numberplate offences
- eight drivers were dealt with for illegal window tints
- and one vehicle was seized and its driver reported for driving while disqualified.

Inspector Clive Turner of North Yorkshire Police’s roads policing group, said: “Our proactive operation was put in place following multiple reports from concerned residents about previous antisocial driving in the area as people drove to and from the organised event.
“We had cause to stop a number of drivers due to illegal window tints and number plates.
“It’s disappointing that people who clearly love and care for their cars, could not extend that care to ensure they are legal and roadworthy.”
The law on UK numberplates is here.
