Emergency services were called to Marks and Spencer in Parliament Street this morning (Saturday 31 August).
YorkMix understands that a child had become trapped in the escalator leading to the third floor of the store.
It sparked a major rescue response, with three fire engines, three ambulances and two police vans called to the store.
Part of the escalator was dismantled.
The child has now been rescued but we don’t yet know the extent of any injuries.
The store is open, but some escalators are now out of bounds, and shoppers are being directed to the lifts and stairs.
