An incident in which children were said to have been assaulted by teenagers was ‘not as reported,’ police said today.
And they have now dropped their investigation.
The force appealed for witnesses after it was reported that three children were approached by youths wearing balaclavas, who assaulted them.
It was said to have happened on a field behind Flaxley Road allotments in Selby between 1pm and 2.30pm last Wednesday (13 April).
The children involved were aged seven, eight and nine, and said they were approached by three older boys on bikes. The incident was also said to have been filmed on a phone.
However today, North Yorkshire Police released this statement:
Yesterday, we issued in appeal in relation to an incident that occurred on Flaxley Road in Selby last week on Wednesday 13 April.
We are now able to confirm that the circumstances of this incident are not as they were initially reported and the investigation is now closed.
We would like to reassure the public that we take all reports of crime seriously and would also like to thank any members of the public that assisted with our enquires.
