A cannabis grow was discovered in York after a tip-off by a neighbour.

North Yorkshire Police described it as “a great example of community information and police work going hand in hand”.

They were contacted by a concerned resident who said there was a possible cannabis grow at a property in the Burnholme area.

Inquiries are continuing

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Our local neighbourhood officers made further enquiries in the area. It didn’t take long for them to sense something wasn’t quite right.

“We started an investigation to gather further information and gained entry into the address this morning (Wednesday, 30 November) where we recovered a large quantity of cannabis plants.

“Our enquires are continuing and we would ask anyone who has any information to come forward.”

You can make a report via the North Yorkshire Police website or by calling police on 101, option 1, quoting 12220211955.

The operation didn’t impress everyone. Commenting on Facebook, several people said cannabis should be legalised. One said: “Police time and resources could be saved.

“Huge amounts of tax could be generated and the NHS could save a fortune with one simple change to the law!”

Another said: “It’s a crime in its self destroying all this – really helps with my spasms and back pains.”
