Police have tonight revealed why they set up a cordon at a York nature reserve earlier today (Saturday).
An area was taped off at St Nicholas Fields and several officers were at the scene.
And the Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed at St Nicks at around 3pm.
Witnesses said the ambulance crew showed great skill to land and take off in today’s high winds.
The cordon was around the famous dragon stones – known as St Nicks’ ‘mini-Stonehenge’.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 3pm today we attended a report that a family’s pet dog had bitten their young child at St Nicholas Fields.
“The dog was secured, and taken by our officers to a kennel, where it remains at this time. The girl was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment.
“Our Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will be on patrol in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.”
