Emergency services were called to the riverside in York last night (Wednesday).
It happened at around 7.30pm near Ouse Bridge.
Police cordoned off a section of Queen’s Staith for a while as officers and paramedics responded to the emergency.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The ambulance service contacted police at 7.30pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, 2 November) to report concern for safety of a man on a bridge on Low Ousegate in York.
“Officers attended and the man was conveyed to hospital.”
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call just before 7.30pm on Wednesday evening to reports of a male in distress on a bridge on Low Ousegate in York.
“An ambulance and rapid response vehicle were dispatched to the scene, along with police officers, and the patient was conveyed to hospital.”
