Emergency services responded to an incident in York city centre this afternoon (Monday).
Three fire engines, a police car and an unmarked police vehicle were called to The Divine Project on Market Street after smoke was reported inside.
The coffee shop was evacuated and firefighters went into the building.
There was no visible sign of smoke of flames in the building, and no cordon has been put in place.
A crowd of people had gathered in the area, and Street Rangers were also on hand.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York, Acomb and Tadcaster responded to reports of smoke logging in a retail premises.
“Crews entered the building to inspect wearing two breathing apparatus sets and carried a hose reel jet to fight fire if required.
After a thorough inspection it was found that a smoke cloak had activated in the building and no action was required by the fire service.”
