Po-faced York plummets to the bottom of the laughs league
Turns out that living in the best city in the world is not laugh a minute.
Or laugh an hour. Or even laugh every 45 minutes.
According to a new survey, York is near the bottom of the laughs league table, with residents laughing a mere 14 times a day.
Only Derry-Londonderry and Warrington laugh less often – 13 times a day.
Topping the table is Sunderland, with a side-splitting 33 laughs a day. Then comes Wrexham (32), Bath (31), Dundee (29).
Even the people of Wolverhampton laugh twice as much as York residents, with 28.
The survey comes from those reputable social scientists – the Beano comic.
It’s Hilarity Report finds Sheffield is Yorkshire’s laughter capital, with 28 laughs a day.
The study coincides with the Beano’s competition to find the funniest school class.
Students can submit their jokes here. The winning class will be turned into a strip in Britain’s most famous kids’ comic. The class will also win Beano subscriptions, Beano books and a VIP Beano assembly.
