The Haxby Group GP Practice in York has put out an important message today – please don’t come for a second dose of the Covid vaccine.
Following new Government guidance, the practice is now delaying the second dose of the vaccine to up to 12 weeks after the first dose.
This is a national decision to increase the numbers of people we can vaccinate, as quickly as possible.
A practice spokesperson said: “Everyone with an appointment for a second vaccination should have now received a cancellation.
“Please note second vaccinations are not being carried out on 10-12 January at our Haxby surgery, York.”
In a video, Dr Daniel Kimberling, one of the Haxby Group GPs who has been delivering the coronavirus vaccine to people over 80, said: “It’s been an exciting job to do, and also, at times frustrating. And I’m talking to you today because of one of the frustrating things that we’ve had to do.
“We’ve been advised by the government that we should not do the second dose for patients from this weekend – and instead provide more capacity for the first dose to be given to people who haven’t had any vaccination yet.
“This was a difficult decision to take, because I know it will be disappointing to you as well as to us to not get the second dose at three weeks. It will come.”
