A spectacular new airshow is expected to draw a big crowd this weekend – and police are warning motorists to be aware.
The Flying Legends Airshow runs this Saturday and Sunday (15 and 16 July) at Leeds East Airport, formerly RAF Church Fenton.
More than 50 warplanes are scheduled to fly, including up to 12 Spitfires, two Hurricanes and numerous rare American fighters.
The show’s location
Flying Legends is the first new airshow to come to the North of England for decades. The display draws in thousands of vintage aviation enthusiasts who travel from around the globe and across the UK to see the aircraft and close formation aerobatics.
North Yorkshire Police say that will put pressure on the roads in and around the airport.

They said: “This weekend, between the 15th and 16 July 2023 the Flying Legends Air show is taking place at Leeds East Airport (formerly RAF Church Fenton).
“We are expecting an increase in traffic in and around the airport, therefore please plan your route and follow the yellow signage.”
Organisers say “Please do not travel without a valid ticket,” and ask visitors to display their car park pass clearly in their windscreen.
There is also a a free shuttle bus service from Church Fenton Rail Station.
