A popular York coffee bar’s next chapter will be discussed at a meeting next week.
The Old Butchers Coffee Shop in Dunnington is planning to expand into a night-time bistro.
Its application for an alcohol licence will be scrutinised by councillors on Monday (11 July).
Under company name Bad Habits Coffee Bar Limited, it is applying to serve alcohol from midday to 11.30pm daily.
The premises serves hot and cold food and can accommodate up to 30 people.
The business owners told YorkMix in May: “We operate as coffee shop, plus breakfast, brunch and lunch for now, but the plan is to open Friday and Saturday evening as a bistro restaurant.”
Responses to the application
North Yorkshire Police is supporting the application after agreeing six conditions with the owners.
Two neighbours are opposing the application.
A couple aged in their 90s who live opposite the planned bistro said: “My wife and I live opposite the cafe at 13 York Street and do not wish to be disrupted by people leaving the cafe at a late hour.”
The other neighbour says: “We strongly object to the café becoming a licensed premises; it is a residential street, surrounded by residential properties in close proximity which include our young children.
“Our property on York Street is next to the cafe and we would ultimately suffer from
disturbed sleep with noise disturbance from people leaving the cafe, particularly after drinking alcohol to the late hour of 11pm as most of the bedrooms are located to the front of the property.”
The licensing application will be considered by councillors on Monday at 10am. You can read the papers here.
