Plans to open a round-the-clock veterinary hospital in York have been unveiled.

Coverdale House at Clifton Moor, which was home to the Environment Agency until January, is set to be transformed into “as a high quality Veterinary Hospital facility for small animal species”.

York-based company VetPartners has applied to City of York Council for permission to change the use of the building from business to non-residential institution.

In their application they state:

  • Coverdale House is envisaged as a high quality Veterinary Hospital facility for small animal species, enhancing the provision of veterinary care for York and the surrounding area.

It will encompass the whole spectrum of veterinary care, from normal day to day work, to a more specialist level, meaning that owners and their pets will not have to travel as far to receive the care they need, and will bring additional business and employment to York as it will also attract patients from outside York.

The site will run an emergency out of hour’s service running 24 hours a day 365 days per year.

The VetPartners group has more than 2,900 employees working in over 260 sites across the UK and from its Leeman House HQ in York.

If the planning application is granted the new vetinary hospital would create 15 jobs.
