Plans are in to build flats on a York car park.
Nine apartments are proposed for the site of the Dean Court car park in the city centre.
The site is found between Bootham Row and Portland Street. It is currently used as private parking for the Dean Court Hotel on Duncombe Place.
Car park location
The proposal is to build a two-storey block with the nine apartments on the north western half of the site. The other half of the site would stay as a car park.
Planning documents state: “To the front of the dwellings would be a lawned area with tree planting and a paved walkway to access each unit.
“The proposed apartments comprise eight studios and one larger unit at the north western end of the building that spans two floors.”
There are no spaces for residents’ cars in the plans.

The application says: “Whilst there is no dedicated parking for residents, the site is in a very accessible location by means other than the private car and therefore occupants of the apartments could realistically live in the dwellings without the need for a car and car parking spaces.
“Dedicated safe cycle storage will also be provided, further encouraging the use of sustainable transport methods.”
A similar scheme was previously granted by City of York Council but never implemented.

There is no affordable housing included in the scheme as it is too small to qualify.
At the moment the site is used exclusively for the cars of guests at Dean Park Hotel.
Guests stop outside the hotel in Duncombe Place. Hotel staff then unload their luggage and then drive the car to this car park, before driving it back when required. The valet car parking costs £25 a night.
