The Prime Minister ended a combative day buying sweet treats at York Station.
Boris Johnson was pictured at a cake stall at the station, following his visit to the Network Rail hub at Gascoigne Wood, near Selby.
That was where he defended his government’s decision to scrap the eastern leg of the HS2, which would have brought the high speed rail link to Leeds, and to water down the Northern Powerhouse Rail plans.

At the station Mr Johnson was accompanied by Julian Sturdy, the Conservative MP for York Outer.
Rustic Baking Co, which runs the station stall, remarked on their “surprise customer at the stall today”.
It led to a few comments. One said: “Looking for an ‘Eton Mess’ methinks.”
