There was music, there were diggers, there was Bluey the dog – and seven fantastic races.
The YorkMix Family Raceday had everything!
Thousands of people went to York Racecourse for one of the city’s favourite family-friendly events today (Sunday).
William Derby, chief executive and clerk of the course, told YorkMix: “It’s a lovely day today. I’m glad the sun is shining.
“It’s a very different day for us at York Racecourse, our one and only family Sunday, supported by YorkMix.
“It’s something we’re very proud to be part of. The racecourse has been here since 1731. It’s very much part of the community.
“We have 1,500 people working here today, many of them live and work in the city. We’re really proud to welcome over 10,000 people are here today. It’s fantastic.”
Children were thrilled to meet TV star Bluey – and our own Mixie Monster. And they had a fabulous time in the entertainment marquee, complete with zorb ball, diggers and inflatable fun.
They queued to have a go in the fire engine and dressed up as police officers with North Yorkshire Police.
On the course, the large crowd went wild for seven thrilling races. See you again next year?
