Pictures: This is how York city centre looked on the first Bank Holiday after restrictions were eased

It was the first Bank Holiday since lockdown rules were eased – and a sunny and warm one at that.

Would it see visitors return in numbers to York?

Well, there were a few more people in the city centre than we’ve seen in recent weeks – but still not many.

The mood was cautious and socially distanced but also a little more upbeat. A number of coffee and ice-cream shops were serving from their doors, having re-opened this weekend.

The owners said it was quiet but helping revive the business.

These photos were taken during daily exercise between 11am and 1pm, in accordance with Government guidelines.
