It was just like old times.
Shed Seven were back in the heart of York this afternoon (Friday) celebrating the release of their latest record.
Fans were queuing out of the shop as the band signed copies of A Matter Of Time, released today, in HMV on Coney Street.
It is set to be their highest charting album ever on pre-orders alone, and is already number one in the iTunes UK albums top 100.
And that comes on top of a chart-busting career which ensured the Sheds are unrivalled as York’s biggest ever band.
Frontman Rick Witter thanked fans for their support for the release. He said: “It’s genuinely really appreciated, and we hope you are going to love it.
“Can you believe that after 30 years in the business, this album will be our highest charting entry? That’s down to you guys!
“We are also in reach of potentially getting our first number one album… we’d be the first artist from York to reach the top!”
People are already raving about the album, which was recorded in Spain and features The Libertines’ Peter Doherty playing on one of the tracks.
One said: “Absolutely brilliant work. Not many bands can pull an album like this out the bag after 30 years.”
Another fan added: “What an album! Not a single track that I didn’t enjoy. Looking forward to hearing it live.”
The band signed the album and other Shed Seven merch in HMV.
They will play two special homecoming gigs – with Peter Doherty set to make a guest appearance – at York’s Museum Gardens in July.
Those shows sold out almost immediately. But you can see their other gigs on their website.
