A fire at a shop in York briefly closed a city centre street.
The fire broke out at the Hair Universe shop on the corner of Nessgate and Coppergate.
The York BID Street Rangers spotted the fire as part of their property check service, and raised the alarm.
Firefighters from York, Acomb and Huntington went to the scene after receiving the call at 4.45pm today (Monday).



They found the fascia around a shop window on fire.
Crews using a dry powder extinguisher to put out the flames.
Coppergate was briefly closed while they dealt with the incident. It has since reopened.
The fire is believed to be caused by an electrical fault. No one was hurt.
