Stars of Emmerdale showed off their sporting chops as they took on a York side in a charity cricket match on Sunday (July 12).
Famous faces including Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard, and Matthew Wolfenden – Eric’s son David Metcalfe in the soap – were in the team for the T20 match at Heworth Cricket Club.
A family crowd turned out to support the event. With a bouncy castle, tombola and crossbar challenge there was plenty to do off the field.
The adults drank the bar dry of lager while the barbecued burgers were doing a roaring trade.
Matthew and Chris held an auction between innings which raised more than £800. The final total, for Yorkshire Cancer Research and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, will be in the thousands.
As for the game itself, it was an entertaining and close-fought affair. Heworth scored 116, a total which Emmerdale overhauled with only one ball to spare.
Although they did have former Yorkshire cricketer Ashley Metcalfe on their side…
