Have you ever wondered what York might have looked like in medieval times?

Well here’s your answer – courtesy of a video game!

Created by developers Dell’Arte Della Guerra, a recreation of York in the 15th century will feature in a War of the Roses mod for the game Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a strategy action role-playing video game developed and published by TaleWorlds Entertainment, and co-published by Prime Matter. The main gameplay is to build an army and lead them into battle.

A mod – short for modification – in gaming terms means that one or more aspects of a game has been altered.

The mod is yet to be released, but it’s a total conversion mod – meaning that it will change everything about the game and, in this instance, transform it into 15th century England.

Players will be able to explore the streets of York as it might have once looked, and see some familiar sights such as York Minster, the city walls and Monk Bar.

The beautifully rendered images of the city recreate the War of the Roses era in stunning detail – and since the mod is not yet finished, it could get even more immersive.

Take a look below at the images released so far below.

Find out more about the Dell’Arte Della Guerra mod here, and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is available via Steam.
