‘People’s Parliament’ rally to be held in York

St Helen's Square under blue skies
Thu 29 Aug, 2019 @ 9.59 am News, Politics YorkMix

York Central MP, Rachael Maskell, is organising a ‘People’s Parliament’ rally this Saturday, 31 August, in York

Scheduled for 10:30am, the event will be held in St Helen’s Square. It has been created in light of the Queen consenting to the suspension of Parliament on October 14th.

Rachael Maskell MP said:

“I am outraged that this shambolic Government led by Mr. Johnson has held the people of this country in contempt by removing their Parliament’s right to scrutinise Government and hold it to account.

I am holding this People’s Parliament for the residents of York so they can speak and have their voices heard.

I will then do everything possible to take their views to the Prime Minister.

We must all pledge to work together and do whatever is necessary to ensure that people do not lose their democratic rights.

I urge you to join me this Saturday to stand up, be seen, be heard and let this Government know that we will not allow this constitutional crisis to continue.”

The prorogation will reduce the number of sitting days parliament has, prior to the UK’s scheduled departure from the EU on 31 October.

This will be part of a wave of protests happening across the country this Saturday.

In, out, leave or remain, it’s not about brexit. We cannot allow a minority government to bypass Parliament. Simple.

It was a national People’s Referendum and Rachael Maskell should respect the result.

York Central voted:
Remain: 63,617
Leave: 45,983

Rachael Maskell is respecting her constituency and the duties of the representative nature of our democracy.
