Take a pew next to Paddington – as a special statue was unveiled in York today.
The statue of the beloved bear was revealed in Dean’s Park, York, this morning (Wednesday), by York’s Town Crier, Ben Fry, and the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr. Margaret Wells.
It’s part of a nationwide trail celebrating everyone’s favourite marmalade loving bear, and marks the forthcoming release of Paddington in Peru – which arrives in cinemas on 8 November.

York is one of the 23 locations across taking part in the Paddington Visits trail, with the special statues appearing in cities, towns, and beauty spots all over the UK and Ireland.
The York Paddington bench is a collaboration between StudioCanal, York Bid and York Minster.
“We’re so excited to be working with StudioCanal and York Minster to welcome Paddington here in Dean’s Park,” Rachel Bean, project manager at York Bid, told YorkMix. “The reaction has already been incredible.
“We want people to be able to come down, enjoy spending some time with Paddington, and bring a smile to people’s faces before they go off and explore all the amazing things that are happening in York.”
The statue of Paddington is sporting the wise bear’s signature red hat, blue duffle coat, and, naturally, a marmalade sandwich in his paws.
And Paddington will be sticking around to enjoy the spectacular views of York Minster for the foreseeable future! So there’s plenty of time to stop for a selfie or maybe even share a marmalade sandwich or two.
