There’s been flooding in the centre of Tadcaster tonight (Tuesday)
It’s coming from the drains rather than the river and follows some heavy rain.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue is there to pump the water away.
Nicola Eades, from Tadcaster Community Action Group says Bridge Street is closed to stop cars creating a wash which could make any flooding of properties worse.
She is hoping any damage to property is limited but they will not be able to assess that until the fire service have finished their work.
In an update at 22:15 she said:
“Bridge Street is now open and clear at 10.15pm; after flooding from the surface water system (drains) this evening.
“A massive thank you to Tadcaster Flood Action volunteers, businesses and residents and Tadcaster fire brigade.
“Together we stopped cars tidal flooding properties. Think who you may affect before you drive through flood water please.”
Local Councillor Kirsty Poskitt says the drains are a huge problem and this keeps happening.
She has called on the public to make a report each time to North Yorkshire County Council.
She says they are badly maintained and directed people to this link https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/road-drains-and-gully-cleaning to make the council aware of the problems.
