The York National Book Fair is back this weekend – and it’s celebrating 50 years of bringing literary delights to the city.
The event is Britain’s largest rare and antiquarian book fair and it attracts visitors and sellers from across the UK and beyond.
And it’s set to impress once again – with over 185 exhibitors and over 100,000 books for sale.
The York Book Fair will take place this weekend at York Racecourse, on Friday 13 (12-7pm) and Saturday 14 September (10am – 5pm).
The fair will feature a showcase of books, maps, ephemera and prints from an international collection of booksellers.
The first ever fair took place at the White Swan in York in 1974, with a modest 20 booksellers. Now, 50 years on, the York Book Fair has grown into the largest antiquarian and out-of-print book fair in the UK and Europe.
The items up for sale will range in price from a few pounds up to thousands of pounds – making this the perfect event for casual book lovers or serious dealers and traders.
There is unlimited free parking at the venue and there will be a free shuttle bus to and from the fair, which will run for the duration of the event. It will depart from the Memorial Gardens on Railway Street every 30 minutes. Refreshments will also be available all day at York Racecourse.
Tickets for the event are £2 on the door or advance free tickets can be downloaded via the York Book Fair website.
The York National Book Fair is organised by the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association.
