Flavoured with ingredients from around the world, these chocolate drinks will soon be served up in the heart of York.
New venue Cocoa Joe’s specialises in choccy beverages, whether hot, cold or Mocha.
It is due to open on Museum Street within the next couple of weeks.
Shopfitting is now underway in what was the home of Demijohn, until the ‘liquid deli’ was forced to close due to the pandemic.
Cocoa Joe’s is the brainchild of Joe Andrew, who believes that ‘only great chocolate can make great a great chocolate drink’.
All the drinks are made from solid chocolate rather than powder, sourced from across the globe. Prices range from £2.90 to £5.
The new venue is creating five jobs.

Joe told YorkMix: “Customers can expect a wide array of solid chocolates on the menu from all around the world. Once they have found their favourite, we make it into a drink of their choice.
“We have around 13 different chocolates available at any one time, paying particular attention to the tasting notes and origins of each one with the aim of capturing the widest variety of different flavours and intensities possible, so there is something for everyone.
“In order to help find the right chocolate for an individual’s preferences, we always encourage customers to sample the various chocolates for themselves first and we have staff to help them along the journey.
“Once they have found their perfect chocolate we make it into a drink of their choice.”
This can be hot chocolate, iced chocolate or a mocha (hot or iced).
Joe added: “We also have flavours and whole spices that we can infuse into each drink in various combinations, such as lavender, cardamom, chilli, orange, ginger, thyme, peppermint, and praline.
“Therefore the same chocolate can be reimagined in countless different ways.”
On the menu at the moment are milk chocolate from Vietnam, Venezuela and Ghana, white chocolate from Ecuador and Madagascar, and dark chocolate from Uganda and Peru.
Customers can also add extras, from whipped cream and marshmallows to salted caramel and gingerbread.
Joe is all about sustainability: “On top of using compostable cups and running our shop using renewable energy sources, we will only buy from suppliers who can demonstrate a commitment to ethically sourced cocoa and proper farming practices.”
