A driver with First York will be remembered for his sense of humour and zest for life by the company naming a bus after him.
Kevin Hagan died after a short illness. He was only in his early 50s and leaves behind many friends. He will also be missed by the countless passengers he met on his bus routes around York.
Tom Donnelly, First’s operations manager in York, said: “All of us here at First York are saddened by the passing of Kevin Hagan.
“Kev was a real leading light at First York and was truly loved and admired by his colleagues and supervisors.
“Anyone who spent time with Kev was the better for it. His wit and banter will be missed among our driver team as he would often enlighten those around him with stories and jokes.
“In recognition, First York will be dedicating a vehicle in Kevin’s name in the coming weeks.”
Kevin Hagan lived in Lilbourne Drive in Clifton and was close friends with his neighbour Collette Allen.
“Kevin was one of life’s endearing characters,” she said.
“It was my pleasure to know him. He was friendly, kind, charming, funny, bright, cheery right to the end.
“My final visit to see him he was all those things even staring down death’s gaze.”
They met 25 years ago when they were the first people to move into the new estate.
“From the very off he became part of my life,” Collete said. “Popping his head over the fence, coming round for a drink – not always tea!
“Making me laugh with tales of his outrageous escapades. He led a very full life, ten of most people’s.
“I will miss him.”
