There’s a brand new music raceday coming to York next year – and this man is headlining the first one.
Olly Murs is the headline act for one of three music and racing events at York Racecourse in 2017.
The chartbusting singer will star on Saturday, July 1, 2017, a new addition to the Knavesmire calendar, after the sporting action is concluded.
Olly is chuffed to be returning to York, having last performed at the races in 2010. He said:
I love a day out at the races too so can’t wait to get in the crowd during the day to place a cheeky bet.
Platinum man
Since Olly shot to fame as runner-up in the 2009 series of X Factor, he has released four multi-platinum albums, produced four number one singles, and clocked up total record sales exceeding 10 million.
His latest album, 24 Hrs, sees him working with an array of producers and was recorded in both London and LA.
York Racecourse’s head of marketing James Brennan said: “It is great news that Olly Murs, a performer who wowed the crowds on his last visit here in 2010, will be performing for us.
“It will herald a month for music and racing fans to remember.”
Before Olly performs there will be seven thoroughbred races with a total prize pot of £150K.
No news yet as to who will be headlining the remaining two York music showcases in 2017, on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29.
As part of the same 21-date tour, Olly will also play Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Sunday, July 9.
