A yellow jersey which would fit Godzilla was unveiled today (June 13) on top of a York shopping centre. The vast day-glo T shirt is the biggest tribute yet to the city landing a leg of the Tour de France.
The jersey was rolled out across the roof of McArthurGlen’s York Designer Outlet as the Grand Départ comes over closer.

An homage to the famous sunshine jersey worn by the winner of the Tour de France each year, the vast 40 square metre (436 sq ft) T-shirt will lie on the roof of the centre until the end of the Grand Départ.
“The giant yellow jersey is our way of celebrating how thrilled we are that Le Grand Départ of the Tour de France is coming to Yorkshire,” said centre manager Mike Thomas.
“As an official spectator hub we want the centre to be buzzing with excitement and we have a host of activities lined up for the main event.”
A big screen will be put up at the centre on the day of the Grand Départ from York, Sunday, July 6, so visitors can watch the race.
Other entertainment laid on that weekend will include a craft fayre with homemade jewellery and gifts, sports demonstrations, falconry displays and a pop up French-themed bistro from PapaKata as well as special offers from the stores.
