The skatepark at Norton has been damaged and vandalised.
The man behind the campaign to get it refurbished and reopened says he is “absolutely furious”.
Ryan Swain says there have been issues with antisocial behaviour, a general lack of respect and now criminal damage and graffiti.
He also says he spent two hours trying to report the damage to North Yorkshire Police but was on hold on 101 for over two hours.
“I actually confronted a large gang last week that were purposely damaging stuff and rocking the shelter off the ground and their response to me was “Police won’t don’t anything mate”.
Conservative county councillor Keane Duncan said: “We’ve had such a difficult and lengthy campaign to get the Skatepark reopened. Thousands of pounds has been spent by the town council and to see this situation is really pretty heartbreaking.
“I’m hoping that we can get constructive action from North Yorkshire Police and from the town council to ensure that nothing like this happens again.”
