One of the largest waterparks in the region announced on their Facebook page that it was closing with immediate effect yesterday (11 October 2023).
Alpamare in Scarborough said “It is with great sadness that we announce the temporary closure of Alpamare Scarborough with effect from today. We plan to re-open in Spring 2024.”
The statement continued “Whilst we have a fantastic park and lots of brilliant customers, we are unable to continue trading through the winter due to the ongoing high costs associated with our business (including the very high cost of energy needed to heat our facilities and pools in the winter).”

The £14 million waterpark opened in July 2016 and hosts some or the largest water slides in the UK. It is run by German company Alpamare, which has constructed some of the world’s most advanced waterparks in places like Dubai and Florida.
The shutdown includes phone lines, which will not be manned. Customers who have bookings for the next three months should receive an automated refund.
Any enquiries should be directed via their social channels or directly to [email protected].
They close by saying they “cannot wait to re-open in the Spring and welcome you all to Alpamare again.”
