A North Yorkshire school has closed and will not open again until next week after a sudden increase in positive cases of Covid-19.
Sherburn High School shut on 17 June. It will reopen on Monday (28 June).
The spike was brought to light by routine home testing. A mobile testing unit was then set up last week at the school, which has 800 pupils between the ages of 11 and 18.

Currently Sherburn In Elmet has one of the highest Covid rates in the country – 560.7 cases per 100,000 people. That follows 60 cases being identified in the seven days to 17 June.
The school is run by the Star Multi Academy Trust. It released a statement with North Yorkshire County Council to say the shutdown was “in order to prioritise both the quality of education as well as the health and wellbeing of staff and students”.
It went on: “Sherburn High is working closely with North Yorkshire County Council, Public Health England and the Department for Education to manage the situation, which is under constant review.
“The health and wellbeing of all students, staff and members of the wider community, as well as the continuity of education and care for students not currently in school, remain the school’s priorities.”
Children and young people rarely become seriously ill following Covid-19 infection.
