Police are warning of treacherous driving conditions in parts of North Yorkshire tonight (Thursday).
Officers urged people to avoid travelling on the A171 near Fylingdales between Scarborough and Whitby because of heavy snowfall.
North Yorkshire Police said: “We’re currently dealing with around 100 cars that are stranded due to the snow and drivers are strongly advised not to travel.”
There are also problems on the A169. Police said: “Drivers are advised to avoid travelling on the A169 road between Pickering and Whitby due to adverse weather conditions caused by snow and ice.”
Some bus services have also been impacted by the weather:
Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said the cold snap was set to continue: “The cold conditions are set to remain for the remainder of this week and into the weekend.
“For those inland it will remain dry, crisp and cold but showers will continue along the east, becoming more north into the weekend.”
