One of the UK’s only privately-owned toll bridges will soon close for almost six months for repairs.
Aldwark Toll Bridge crosses the River Ure and connects Little Ouseburn with Aldwark.
The closure will cause a large detour for many drivers.

The closure to the 18th century bridge is set to run from 17 April to 30 October.
Drivers are charged a 40p toll to cross. Without it motorists face a 25 mile journey. Diversions will be put in place via Boroughbridge.
The sort of work needed is outlined on the bridge website, which says: “The bridge has suffered from a lack of investment, and a professional survey carried out by a firm of specialist bridge surveyors has highlighted the works that need to be done.
“The works include repairing the archways, painting the bridge and repairing or even replacing the entirety of the deck.
“The works are essential to prevent further decay which would result in the bridge having to close for a lengthy period.”
A request to increase the toll was rejected by a government inspector last year.
