Full details have now emerged about the crash which closed the A1(M) in North Yorkshire today (Thursday).
A total of nine vehicles collided on the southbound carriageway between junctions 49 (Dishforth) and 48 (Boroughbridge).
Emergency services were first alerted at 11.58am.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service sent crews from Northallerton, Knaresborough, Thirsk and Ripon alongside the Incident Support Unit.
One woman was trapped in her car. She was cut from the wreckage by firefighters and carried out via a spinal board, before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
Six other people, who were out of their vehicles when 999 crews arrived, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The carriageway was completely closed for two-and-a-half hours and only fully reopened shortly before 5pm.
At one stage the incident caused tailbacks of more than five miles.
