A woman was attacked and subjected to a serious sexual assault in York.
The incident was reported at 11.45pm on Tuesday (7 May) when the woman was attacked by a man in the Nunnery Lane area.
Police put a scene guard in place to allow officers to examine the scene. Detectives are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area including checks of CCTV.
The victim is receiving support from specially trained officers and partner agencies.
The cordoned off area includes the bus shelter and a wooden bench a few yards up from the junction with Victoria Street.
A silver Mobile Police Office is parked on the pavement on Nunnery Lane.
Another police van is parked on St Benedict Road on the opposite side.
Anyone who was in the area between 11.15pm and midnight and saw any suspicious behaviour is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.
