Leather bag brand Zatchels is back in York – ten months after its first shop in the city closed.
The company is to open a new branch on Stonegate.
It will open next door to the House of the Trembling Madness, in the shop last occupied by Avatar jewellers, on Thursday (1 October).
A British brand, Zatchels makes and sells leather bags, satchels and accessories.
It originally opened a shop on Shambles in June 2014.
But the parent company went into administration with the loss of 43 jobs last December, and the Shambles store was closed.
The brand was then taken over by a new company, Tradewise Solution Ltd, in January.
The Shambles shop remains, still with its Christmas window display from last year showing behind the shutters, and a bailiff’s letter stuck on the door.
Just shares the name

But the new owners stress: “Zatchels is not connected with the previous business except by name.
“The new management are proud to keep the core values of the iconic Zatchels brand and will continue to create high-quality, hand-crafted leather bags and accessories made in their new factory in Leicestershire.”
Happily the former manager of the Shambles shop, Tammy Hullis, is back at the helm of the new Stonegate store.

She will run it alongside another full-time member of staff, and they are looking to recruit more workers soon.
A spokeswoman for Zatchels said: “The store will house classic Zatchels leather satchels and bag styles plus a host of in-store exclusives including the latest autumn/winter collection entitled Luna, which will make its debut at the store.
“The expert retail team will be on hand to assist with customers’ needs and will be able to offer advice on buying your bag and how to care for them.”
