York’s chief librarian, the former head of a schools academy and the founder of a key city charity are among those to receive New Year’s Honours.
And a North Yorkshire MP is knighted in the honours, revealed tonight (Friday).
Altogether, 1,278 people receive an award – with Olympians, actors, scientists among the recipients, while nearly one in five (19%) of the honours are for Covid-related service.

The MP for for Scarborough and Whitby Robert Goodwill is knighted in the honours. He has led a life dedicated to politics since first delivering leaflets while at school in York, and has served as minister in four different departments.
Fiona Williams is awarded the British Empire Medal for services to libraries. She said she was “honoured and humbled” by the award, which she dedicated to library staff who had kept the service open to all during the pandemic.
David Kerfoot, who chaired the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership until 2020, receives a CBE for services to rural businesses and the voluntary and community sector.
Former York school head teacher and founder of a city schools trust, Brian Crosby, has been made an MBE.

The one-time head of Manor CE School, who founded the Hope Learning Trust, said he was ‘truly humbled’ to receive the award.
Another MBE recipient is Yvonne Copley, the chief executive of charity the Kyra’s Women’s Project. Her honour is for services to women and to the community in York.
Professor Lucy Carpenter from the University of York receives an MBE for services to atmospheric chemistry.
She told YorkMix: “I’m delighted and honoured to receive an MBE for services to atmospheric chemistry and thankful to my colleagues for the recognition.
“I want to thank my amazing team and colleagues at York for being so great to work with and my family for always having their support.”
And Dr Julian Mark, executive medical director of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service receives the Queen’s Ambulance Service Medal.
