A new supermarket is to open in York.
Co-op has confirmed ambitions to invest more than £700K into a newly built store at The Chocolate Works, “to better serve communities in the heart of York”.
The development will transform the current sales office at The Chocolate Works on Campleshon Road into a convenience store with a sales area of 2,500 sq ft.
Subject to planning consent and approval, this will enable Co-op to develop a convenience store “that would provide greatly improved access to food and other essential, everyday services, for the community”, said a company spokesperson.
No launch date for the new store has been launched.
But the opening hours are 6am to 11pm daily, according to a licensing application.
The new store confirms Co-op’s ambitions to expand in the area.
It is planning to open a York city centre store in Stonebow House.
And on Friday (16 April) it opened a food store in Kirkbymoorside. The Piercy End shop runs on 100% renewable electricity and supports 24 local jobs including six new newly created roles.
Nicola Taylor, Co-op area manager, said: “We are extremely proud to be opening a brand new, more spacious store – it has a fantastic fresh new look.
“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to carry out such a significant investment in Kirkbymoorside, we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and services locally that will create a really compelling offer to serve the community.”
